The team preparing for the 2018 Africa Goal project is made up of many of the same people who coordinated the 2006, 2010 and 2014 campaigns, as well as some new faces. All members are keen football fans, hardy travelers and are committed to reducing HIV prevalence in the region. Each of the team members brings to the project a specific skill set, individual experience and expertise. Similar to a football team, selection has been carefully considered and every Africa Goal member has key roles and responsibilities – together, they make the perfect team! As in previous campaigns, the 2018 team comprises media professionals, technicians, logistics experts, as well as health and development practitioners who have experience in HIV and AIDS initiatives across Africa.

Mary Leakey
Project Coordinator
Member of 2006, 2010 and 2014 teams. Currently based in Nairobi and working as a development consultant for a number of health organisations, Mary has worked extensively within contemporary HIV, health and development issues is East and Southern Africa.

Maciej Sudra
Technical Coordinator
Member of the 2006, 2010 and 2014 teams. With a background in graphic design, film and computer science, Maciej is currently teaching Design at the International School of Kenya in Nairobi. Maciej will bring his experience to the operation of all technological aspects of the project, including designing and updating the Africa Goal website.

Dominic Matthews
Community liaison
A member of the 2006, 2010 and 2014 teams, Dominic speaks fluent Kiswahili and has extensive experience establishing both private and community partnerships in East Africa. He currently works as a designer and logistics officer for byDesign, one of Kenya’s leading safari lodge design companies.

Ben Weigl
Logistics & Vehicle Maintenance
A member of the 2006, 2010 and 2014 teams. Ben has worked within the active travel industry for over 10 years conducting tours and expeditions to almost every corner of Australia as well as overseas. He creates Custom Wilderness Expeditions around the world and also works for Ride & Seek Bicycle Tours as a Tour Specialist. He has extensive experience in tour management, logistics, group safety, bush skills and vehicle maintenance.

Lilana Keith
Documentation
Currently based in Brussels and working for the Platform for International Cooperation on Undocumented Migrants (PICUM), Lilana specialises in policy, communications and capacity building work to improve access to human rights, including health services. A member of the 2014 Africa Goal team, Lilana has also lived in Kenya and worked in community development.

Tanya Leakey
Community Partnerships and Logistics
A Kenyan citizen who speaks fluent Kiswahili, Tanya is currently working as a Quality and Process Improvement Engineer for KK Security. She has extensive experience in partnership management, logistics and supported Africa Goal with planning and coordination during the 2010 and 2014 campaigns.

Bert Onsia
Monitoring & Evaluation
A project manager specializing in health and sports. Bert has worked as an Athletic Director in Uganda and is now teaching Physical education in Brussels. A keen footballer who is comfortable anywhere on the field, Bert has been promoting the Africa Goal Project since 2014 from his home-base in Brussels and is exited to be joining the team on the ground in 2018.

Hannah Jones
Health & Research - Based in the San Francisco
Member of the 2006 & 2014 Africa Goal Team. Hannah was born and brought up in Africa and has a background in international economic development research. She has worked on HIV projects, including research, awareness and rapid testing in Africa, France and the United States.

Matan Segman
Promotion - Based in Tel Aviv
Matan, a member of the 2014 project, is currently working together with partners in Israel to highlight the Project through an exhibition in Tel Aviv called “Africa Goal – from Challenge to Change”. The exhibition, opening on the first day of the World Cup and will showcase the project as well as Handcrafted Footballs traded during past Campaigns.

Cynara Vetch
Media & Journalism - Based in Nairobi
A member of the 2010 Africa Goal team, Cynara is a multimedia journalist, with a focus on the developing world, specifically Africa. As well as working for The Guardian newspaper and Al Jazeera, she has worked on television and radio programmes that promote HIV and AIDS awareness. Cynara will be helping to coordinate media coverage.
